Richard Morgan, Director of Music and Organist
Richard Morgan has recently been appointed as Director of the “Chorus of Communities.” The COC draws its’ membership from the EssexCounty communities surrounding Belleville, Nutley, Montclair and many others. Richard Morgan is Director of Music and Organist at St. John on the Mountain in Bernardsville, NJ. Before assuming his recent position at St. John's, he was Director of Music and Organist at St. James Episcopal Church, Upper Montclair, NJ. He served briefly at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church in Pittstown, NJ. Prior to that Mr. Morgan served for 25 years as Organist and Choirmaster at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Morristown, NJ. where he developed a music program which included four choirs involving over 125 singers who performed at three choral services weekly, a concert program and four tours to England, concluding with a week in residence at Canterbury Cathedral in 1998.
Mr. Morgan is a native of Iowa where he began his organ studies at the age of 12 at IowaWesleyanCollege in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He holds degrees from DrakeUniversity in Des Moines, Iowa and YaleUniversity in New Haven. As a student, Mr. Morgan studied for a year in Paris with renowned French Organist André Marchal and won numerous organ competitions.
Mr. Morgan is a dual member of the Northern New Jersey Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, the Metro New Jersey Chapter of the AGO, The Royal School of Church Music in America and an active recitalist, teacher and recording artist.
