Sean Pflueger, bass and composer, is an active performer with many companies in the Washington area including The City Choir of Washington, Washington Savoyards, Bel Cantanti Opera, Loudoun Lyric Opera, Washington National Opera and The In Series. Sean Pflueger has been called a “versatile young bass” and has “surprising delicacy and elegance in the lower registers” In a recent performance of WAM2! Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, DC Theater Scene described Mr. Pflueger as a “resonant-voiced bass... in a commanding presence.” Mr. Pflueger has performed the roles of Sarastro in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, The Count in John Phillip Sousa’s Desiree, Bob in Menotti’s The Old Maid and the Thief, Il Commendatore in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Marquis in Verdi's La traviata, Nerino in Handel's Guilio Cesare, Pooh-Bah and Pish-Tush in Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado, Lord Mountararat in Gilbert and Sullivan’s Iolanthe, Mars in Offenbach’s Orpheus and the Underworld, Alcindoro/Benoit in Puccini’s La Boheme, Chevalier in Victor Herbert’s Madeleine, Rambaldo in Puccini’s La rondine, Crespel in Offenbach’s Tales of Hoffman, Betto and Master Spinelloccio/Amatio di Nicolao in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, and St. Peter in Penhorwood’s Too Many Sopranos. Mr. Pflueger performed in WAM! & WAM2! the 2010 and 2011 collaboration between the In Series and the Washington Ballet. Mr. Pflueger is a member of the Washington National Opera Chorus and has appeared in their productions for the past two seasons. Mr. Pflueger is engaged in concert and oratorio work, having performed the bass solos in Mozart’s Requiem, Haydn’s Mass in the Time of War, Handel's Messiah, Bach’s Canata 59 and Christamas Oratorio Part III, and Faure's Requiem.
Mr. Pflueger is 2011 Baritone winner of the City Choir of Washington’s Young Artist Competition and sang the baritone solos in Haydn’s Mass in the Time of War in February 2011 and Faure's Requiem in October 2011 under the direction of Robert Shafer.
Mr. Pflueger is an accomplished composer for the voice as well, writing sacred and secular works for solo voice and choir. His original arrangements have been sung by local choirs in Northern Virginia. His opera "Children in the Mist" will be performed by innovativi Riverbend Opera company at the Summer 2012 Capital Fringe Festival, July 2012 13 through 21. He won the 2012 Strauss Fellowship from the Arts Council of Fairfax County for Composition and Performance for his original opera.
