Charles Matthew Hill "Matt" is the Director of Music at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Oregon City, Oregon, as well as a voice and piano instructor at The Shedd Institute for the Arts in Eugene, Oregon. He is also an active tenor soloist and the Artistic Director of the professional choral ensemble In Musica Modem.
Matt received his Bachelor of Music in Sacred Music and Voice Perfromance with a minor in Organ from East Carolina University, studying with Mr. John Kramar, Dr. Daniel Bara, and Dr. Janette Fishell. He also has a Master of Music from Westminster Choir College in Voice Pedagogy and Performance where he studied with Dr. Scott McCoy, Dr. Christopher Arneson, and Laura Brooks Rice. While at Westminster Choir College, Matt worked with Mr. Bruce Neswick at The Cathedral of Saint John the Divine in New York City and also sang under Dr. John Scott with the Choir of Saint Thomas Church, Fifth Avenue. While in New York, Matt also sang with the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the American Classical Orchestra, New Jersey State Opera, and Opera New Jersey. He has also toured as a soloist throughout the United States, the United Kingdom, and Ireland.
Matt has premiered several major works including the operas I Fioretti in Musica by Sasha Zamler-Carhart and Ryan Carter. He has also premiered several works by composer, Evan C. Paul, including the song cycle, I Am He, Op 25.
