Elizabeth Alexander

Location: Minnesota, USA

My passion for the English language nearly eclipses my love of music.  Over 2000 choirs have performed my music, from VocalEssence to the entire student body of Waunakee Elementary School.

Critics have called my music "contemplative and hopeful," "awesomely fresh," and "particularly potent," with praise for its "elegance..., subtle, unexpected harmonic turns, and freshness within a well-known language."  But my favorite response was from Philadelphia’s Broad Street Review, in which the critic called one of my works “the most personally moving piece I encountered between Thanksgiving and Twelfth Night.”  (No one needs anything more than that.)

My frequent commissions include orchestral, choral, chamber and solo works. I read voraciously, shamelessly encourage my teenagers’ jokes, and tend my garden during the three month period that is not winter. I have the best job in the world.

The best place to peruse my music is at www.elizabethalexander.com - browse and search and peruse and listen!

Finally...I'm a proud member of the Independent Music Publisher's Cooperative, along with 7 other "entrepreneurial" composers whose distinctive voices are well known: Joan Szymko, Edie Hill, Linda Tutas Haugen, David Moore, Tim Takach, Jocelyn Hagen and Abbie Betinis.  You can browse our collective catalogs and find out more about us at www.imp.coop
