Benjamin Locke is Professor of Music at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, where he has led the choral program for 26 years. He has published research on the choral music of Johannes Brahms. Since 1998 he has become a proponent of the music of South Africa, performing both world and American premieres of said music. He has established a desktop publishing business called Choir Sire Music whose catalog includes the music of Roelof Temmingh, Bongani Mthethwa, Steven Bartek, Jessica Locke, and his own arrangements, compositions and transcriptions.
Ben was the founder of the Benjamin Locke Chorale, based in Toledo, Ohio, in 1972, which is now known as the Masterworks Chorale (directed by Donna Tozer-Wipfli). He received his training from Robert Fountain at Oberlin and at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
