Austen Wilson is a versatile conductor with nearly 10 years of experience conducting a wide variety of ages and ensembles. He is currently the Director of Music at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Haddonfield, NJ, where he oversees a comprehensive music ministry and directs five ensembles: Adult Vocal Choir, Adult/Youth Handbell Choir, Youth Choir, Children’s Vocal Choir, and Children’s Handbell Choir. Along with planning music for worship for Sunday morning, he also designs an annual Lessons and Carols service, which involves Advent and Christmas readings and hymns, and several ensembles presenting anthems of the season. In addition, he directs an annual children’s musical, involving children from the church from age 3 – grade 5.
Wilson is also the Vocal Coach at the Burlington County Institute of Technology in Medford, NJ, where he teaches performance skills, vocal technique, and music literacy to drama students in the performing arts department.
In May 2010, he received a Masters Degree in Choral Conducting from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, where he conducted the Women’s Chorus, served as graduate assistant for the Concert Choir, and sang in the Concert and Chamber Choirs. In May 2003, he graduated from St. Olaf College with a bachelor’s degree in Vocal Music Education. He sang in the St. Olaf Cantorei under John Ferguson, as well as in the annual Christmas Festival. He has studied conducting with Anton Armstrong, Wes Kenney, James Kim, Timothy Mahr, Weston Noble, and Robert Scholz.
