David MonksLocation: France
A student former student of piano and organ in the Royal Irish Academy of Music, Dublin, I also have had an abiding interest in choirs, choral singing and choral composition. My choral experience goes back to the late 1960s. Formative influences were undoubtedly Kodaly and Stanford, although my familiarity with the choral repertoire over the years has grown to be fairly extensive - from Machaut to Machuel. At present I am Chef de Choeur (Choirmaster) of the Choeur d'Alzonne, a small town near Carcassonne in the Languedoc, France. This is a group of about 30 singers, mainly French, with some anglophone members too. I also like to keep my hand in as a choralist, so I sing with Les Choeurs du Lauragais, which is (it is one choir!) based in the town of Castelnaudary
Here is Le Choeur d'Alzonne singing The Nikolai Kedrov 'Otche Nash' (Our Father) in Alzonne Church
and a composition of my own - a setting of Nicholas Vachel Lindsay's 'Star of my Heart' - sung in the Collegiale St. Michel Castelnaudary
Quite a number of other compositions can be found hosted on the Score Exchange site. They are free to download. All I ask is to be emailed when a piece is to be performed - purely for portfolio reasons. Obviously feedback would be welcome too. Here's the link:
