Alan Wellman is a versatile teacher, conductor, and singer. On the faculty at Catherine Cook School since 2005, Dr. Wellman teaches Grades 3-8, directs the Spring Musical, and is Advisor to the most amazing group of students whom identify themselves as the Wellmanites.
As an innovative conductor, he has been responsible for the founding of one chorus, expanding and enhancing the vision of several community choruses, and collaborating with peers and colleagues for the benefit of music appreciation. In 2013 and 2015 Dr Wellman was selected as a conducting fellow at the Choral Institute in Oxford sponsored by Westminster Choir College and St. Stephen’s House at the University of Oxford, UK.
Dr. Wellman was appointed Artistic Director of the Northwest Choral Society in 2010 and also serves as the Associate Director of Music—Adult Choirs at the First Presbyterian Church of Arlington Heights.
Dr. Wellman’s holds the degrees Doctor of Sacred Music from the Graduate Theological Foundation (Mishawaka, IN), a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the American College of Education (Indianapolis, IN), a Master in Music in choral conducting from California State University—Los Angeles, and a Bachelor of Music—choral music education emphasis from Roosevelt University. He is currently a doctoral candidate at Concordia University—Chicago where his doctoral research is in the application of Adult Learning Theory to the Community Choral Rehearsal.
