Dr. Jason Thoms
Dr. Jason Thoms is the Director of Choral Activities at Concordia College – New York in Bronxville, NY.  At Concordia, Jason conducts the Concordia Tour Choir, Festival Choir, Men's Choir, Women's Choir and the newly-formed Chamber Choir.  In May 2009, Dr. Thoms had his Carnegie Hall debut as conductor when the Tour Choir sang in the Weill Recital Hall upon returning from their tour of the Southeastern US.    Dr. Thoms has toured across the US with his choirs and has conducted concerts in 35 states, 2 Canadian Provinces and Italy during his 15 year career as a professional conductor.  In July 2012, the Concordia Chamber Choir will embark on a tour of Southern India.
 
Dr. Thoms is a graduate of St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota and Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan.  He has studied conducting with Anton Armstrong, Robert Scholz, Charles Smith, David Rayl, Jonathan Reed and Simon Carrington.  He is a frequent clinician and adjudicator for school, church and community organizations.  Dr. Thoms holds a position on the board of the NY-ACDA as the Repertoire and Standards Chair in Music and Worship.  Dr. Thoms has written articles and given presentations on “Making Worship more Accessible for Children,” and is passionate about helping churches find more and better ways to integrate children into the worship life of congregations.
 
Dr. Thoms is also a published composer with GIA Music, editor of early music, published educator and a professional bass-baritone.  In 2010 – 2011, Jason sang the Bass Solos in Messiah with the Calvin College Oratorio Society, was a professional chorister in the Santa Fe Desert Choral, sang the role of Nicademus  in the World Premier of the Passion in Baltimore, Maryland and was Bass soloist for the Bach in Baltimore Choir.  Recently, Dr. Thoms was also seen as Leporello in Don Giovanni with Regina Opera in Brooklyn, Benoit in La Boheme and Peter in Hansel and Gretel with the Amore Opera of NY,  President in Feast in the Time of Plague with the Metropolis Opera Project, and Mariner in a new concert piece Rime of the Ancient Mariner. In April 2008 he had his Carnegie Hall debut as soloist in Faure’s Requiem with Anton Armstrong, conductor.
