Jim Jefferis is a choir director and music theorist located in Fairport, NY, a suburb of Rochester. At Fairport High School, Jim directs the Fairport A Cappella, and Polyphonic Choir, an ensemble that has earned multiple Gold with Distinction NYSSMA ratings under his direction. He also teaches music theory classes at Fairport, including AP Music Theory and IB Music. He serves at the music lead teacher for the Fairport Central School district.  In addition to his high school teaching, Jim is the director of the Chancel Choir at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Jim hold a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from SUNY Fredonia, and a Ph. D. in music theory from SUNY Buffalo, where he studied with Charles J. Smith, John Clough, and Martha Hyde. His dissertation, Background and Form in the Songs of Hugo Wolf, was completed in 2004. In his spare time, Jim enjoys spending time with his wife and three daughters, and observing galaxies and star clusters with his homemade telescope.
