Linda Kachelmeier (b. 1965) is a composer, conductor and
professional singer in St. Paul, Minnesota. Her music has been
described as having “luscious counterpoint, deliberate dissonances
and assertive vocal interaction.” She was the recipient of the 2006
Jerome Composers Commissioning Program for Emerging Composers and
in 2009 was chosen for the Faith Partners residency in Marshall,
Minnesota through the American Composers Forum. In October 2010 she
was the recipient of a JFund grant to write art songs for the
Rochester Aria Group based on Welsh Christmas texts that was
premiered in December 2010. In June of 2011, Linda was awarded an
MRAC “Next Step” grant to write a song cycle based on the poems of
Minnesota poet Arthur Upson for tenor Roy Heilman.
Linda is an alto with the internationally acclaimed early music group, The Rose Ensemble, of which she is a founding member. She is also an active arranger with a special affinity for Tin Pan Alley standards and folk songs. Since 1991 she has been the Director of Music at First Presbyterian Church in South St. Paul.
