ACDA announces three new national R&R chairs who begin their terms in July:
Jason Paulk, College and University Choirs National Chair
Damion Womack, Senior High School Choirs National Chair
Jason Bishop, Student Activities National Chair
Dr. Paulk is director of choral activities and professor of music at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM, where he conducts the University Singers, Chamber Singers, and Swanee Singers ensembles, and teaches conducting, and choral methods courses. His degrees include a D.M.A. from the University of Oklahoma, M.M. in conducting and M.M. in music education from Westminster Choir College, and B.M.E. from Stetson University. Choirs under Paulk’s direction have performed at Florida and New Mexico National Association for Music Education conferences, the 2009 ACDA national conference, and for audiences throughout the United States, Europe, and China. Paulk was the winner of the 1997 ACDA Undergraduate Student Conducting Competition and was recently awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching at Eastern New Mexico University.
Dr. Womack is currently director of the arts at the Montgomery Academy in Montgomery, AL, where he oversees the K-12 Visual and Performing Arts program and conducts the Upper School Chorus. Choruses under his leadership have been invited to perform at state and Southern Division conferences of ACDA and state and national conferences of the National Association for Music Education. Womack is a past recipient of the Award for Excellence in Teaching at the Montgomery Academy. He is an active conductor and clinician and has served in this capacity in Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, and Illinois. He is also a past president of the Alabama Vocal Association. Womack holds a B.S. from Alabama A&M University, M.M.Ed. from Alabama State University, and a D.M.A in Choral Conducting from the University of South Carolina.
Dr. Bishop is currently associate professor of music, director of choral & vocal studies, and chair of the Music Department at Drew University. Bishop is active as a guest conductor, clinician, and professional countertenor, and has conducted honor choirs, festivals, and workshops throughout the United States. He has served ACDA in a number of capacities, including the boards of both the Pennsylvania and New Jersey chapters, and most recently as the R&S Chair for Youth & Student Activities for the Eastern Division. Last year, Dr. Bishop was among those selected to be a conducting fellow in ACDA’s International Conductor Exchange Program with South Korea. Bishop holds a B.A. in music and classical languages from Rhodes College, an M.M. in choral conducting from Boston University, and a D.M.A. in choral conducting from the University of Oklahoma.
