World premiere by Antognini, NY Premiere of Cohen’s Alzheimer’s Stories, and rarely-heard Avodath Hakodesh by Bloch, among other extraordinary works, to be performed in Carnegie Hall during Memorial Day Weekend, May 28 and 30, 2016
MidAmerica Productions proudly announces three special concerts in Carnegie Hall during Memorial Day Weekend.
On Saturday, May 28, at 1 p.m., Ivo Antognini’s A Prayer for Mother Earth will be given its world premiere in Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall. Andrew Crane will conduct the New England Symphonic Ensemble, soprano Jessica Sandidge, and choruses from New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Texas, and Switzerland in this major new work.
On the same program, David R. Thye will conduct Dan Forrest’s Requiem for the Living with the New England Symphonic Ensemble, soprano Jessica Sandidge, and choruses from Michigan, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Texas, and Washington; and Cynthia C. Stevens will conduct the Great Falls Community Choir, Great Falls, MT, accompanied by Valerie Smith, in “Music from Montana” by the composers Phil Aaberg, Michael W. Gilboe, C.M. Russell/Norbert Rossi, Daniel Bukvich, and Jack Gladstone.
On Saturday, May 28, at 8 p.m., composer Mark Hayes will conduct three of his anthems plus the world premiere of The Field with words by the mystic Mewlana Jalaluddin Rumi, and Z. Randall Stroope will conduct John Rutter’s Gloria. Both will lead the New England Symphonic Ensemble and choruses from Georgia, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Washington. On the same program. Sonja Sepúlveda will conduct the New England Symphonic Ensemble in Fauré’s Requiem with Mary Ann Stewart, soprano, and Robert-Heepyoung Oh, baritone, with choruses from Brazil, California, Maine, and South Carolina; while Lesley Moffatt will conduct the Jackson High School Honors Wind Ensemble, Mill Creek, WA, in works by Shostakovich, Holst, and Orff.
On Memorial Day Monday, May 30, at 8 p.m., the New York premiere of Robert S. Cohen’s Alzheimer’s Stories, with libretto by Herschel Garfein, will be led by John Silantien, conducting the New England Symphonic Ensemble, The San Antonio Symphony Mastersingers, and Samantha Malk, mezzo-soprano, and Ivan Conrad, baritone.
The program includes Ernest Bloch’s Avodath Hakodesh (Sacred Service). Lester Seigel will conduct the New England Symphonic Ensemble; Michael Nansel, baritone (Cantor); Daniel Seigel, baritone (Reader); and Rebecca Bolding, soprano; Wanda Banks, mezzo-soprano; Gloria Parvin, alto; Brian Denton, tenor; and Timothy Banks, baritone, as well as the Birmingham-Southern College Concert Choir, Birmingham, AL.
Rounding out the program will be Rebecca Prater and Richard Williamson, co-conducting the New England Symphonic Ensemble and soprano Kathryn Wieckhorst in John Rutter’s Requiem with choruses from Kansas and South Carolina.
