Dear conductors,
I have a piece that I would like to introduce to you: CANTICLE OF THE SUN
- mixed choir (SATB)
- string orchestra (vns I & II, vla, cellos, db)
- piano
Difficulty: Intermediate
Canticle of the Sun is a declaration of love and gratitude to our beautiful planet, to its creator and all living beings that inhabit it. This piece comes from my first major, extended work, A Prayer for Mother Earth, that was premiered at the Carnegie Hall on May 28, 2016.
Canticle of the Sun is the most popular sacred poem of the Italian literature, written in 1224 by Francis of Assisi. It is a prayer, a hymn of thanksgiving and praise to God for the creation of the world.
“Be praised, my Lord, through Sister Water;
she is very useful, and humble, and precious, and pure.”
In this movement (which is the 3rd of five, that can be performed separately) the orchestration is very delicate, the strings often playing pizzicato. The piano plays an important role, introducing the principal theme that is later taken up by the voices.
Duration: 5-6 minutes
Conductors who would like to receive a complete perusal or have a look at the whole “Oratorio”, whose title is “A Prayer for Mother Earth”, can write directly to me.
