I Got Me Flowers
Chicago Choral Artists’ spring-inspired May concert, with world premiere of
new work by Chicago composer Ed Frazier Davis
Chicago Choral Artists’ 40th anniversary season concludes with a program of spring-inspired works rooted in the British choral tradition and expanded to include works of contemporary American greats Eric Whitacre and Morten Lauridsen, plus the world premiere of a commission by Chicago composer and CCA member Ed Frazier Davis. Featured works include Davis’ To an Early Daffodil for a cappella choir, with text by Imagist poet Amy Lowell; Britten’s Five Flower Songs; Whitacre’s Three Flower Songs; and Lauridsen’s Dirait-on.
Works by Pearsall, Billings, Clements, Vaughan Williams, Schubert, and Brahms round out the program comprising songs about nature’s flora, human love in full bloom, and mystical reflections on new life. Artistic Director Michael D. Costello conducts.
