Celebrating its 10th Season, New York-based Choral Chameleon presents the first concerts of its Residency at National Sawdust.
SPIRIT is the first installment of a 3-part concert series MIND / BODY / SPIRIT
The series illuminates the insight that the voice is a musical instrument unlike any other; behind every voice is a human being (and all it entails).
About the program:
SPIRIT – Part One – The unseen, most vulnerable part of the musician.
The singer is upheld by a fabric of life experiences and relationships, but also of listening, analyzing, and ultimately falling in love with music.
Why do musicians boldly give their lives to this profession?
What happened in their stories that paved the road for them to be in front of you as a performer today?
What came before the here and now and how can all of that be heard in the sound?
In this unique program, the 12 professional singers of our Ensemble will co-curate the music selection with Artistic Director Vince Peterson as a means of autobiography – each of them openly telling the personal story of their musical upbringing, which in the case of Choral Chameleon, will reflect a truly diverse set of influences.
It is the perpetual musical “coming of age” story for each member and for all of them as a whole.
Topping off the musical program:
• Edward Thompson – World Premiere commission, ‘Effortlessly Love Flows’
• Edward Thompson – ‘Blessed Be You’ (2017)
• Dale Trumbore – ‘I Am Music’ (2014)
• Krists Auznieks – ‘I Exist As I Am’ (2013)
The auto-biographical immersion will be accompanied by projection-mapped visuals created by artist Eric Epstein, incorporating life artifacts from each singer, to enhance the listener’s experience and to draw the audience closer in this intimate, vulnerable setting.
