Francisco J. Núñez, artistic director/founder of the Young People’s Chorus of New York City recently announced the formation of YPC National, an independent non-profit organization founded to facilitate the creation and development of YPC-inspired youth choruses nationwide and the establishment of a national network for YPC-inspired choruses, their directors, and their administrators through four key programs. They are YPC National Lab (presenting national events and programs), YPC National Studio (professional development), YPC National Works (commissioning), and YPC National Gives (granting).
The very first YPC National Lab and YPC National Studio workshops will take place this summer at Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee.
Through participation in YPC National Choral Lab from July 20 to 27, children as young as 12 can experience world-class music training while enjoying the camaraderie of peers from across the US and around the world. Not only will there be performances and tours, but also swimming, barbecues, movie nights, and the chance to meet and sing with members of the Young People’s Chorus of New York City.
YPC National Studio, provides music educators and directors with opportunity to participate in three days of immersive teacher training workshops and to conduct Concinamus (the name of the combined National Lab chorus members). The workshop begins on July 23 at 9 a.m. and concludes with a concert on the evening of July 25.
