The singular and angelic sound of the acclaimed Los Angeles Children’s Chorus (LACC) has been delighting audiences locally, abroad and on the airwaves for three decades. Highlighting its rich history, LACC presents a special 30th Anniversary edition of its popular Spring Concert that includes performances by five of LACC’s premier and training choirs as well as a guest appearance by LACC Founding Director Rebecca Thompson and a performance by an alumni ensemble comprised of former choristers from across the country, on Saturday, May 7, 2016, at First United Methodist Church in Pasadena. The program features a vibrant mix of music both contemporary and traditional from LACC’s extensive musical archives.
Two beloved LACC standards bookend the program, which opens with Kirke Mechem’s Sing All Ye Joyful and concludes with the American fiddle tune Sail Away. Also featured are Vivaldi’s Domine Deus, Ruth Bashkoff’s I Will Bring You Brooches, the Brazilian folk song Menina Me Da Sua Mão, the spiritual Every Time I Feel the Spirit and Javier Busto’s Salve Regina. Additional works include Renaissance composer Thomas Morley’s Sing We and Chant It, Allistair MacGillivrary’s Away from the Roll of the Sea, Ko Matsushita’s Ave Maria.
LACC Artistic Director Anne Tomlinson conducts the chorus’s Concert Choir and Chamber Singers. Associate Artistic Director Mandy Brigham leads the Intermediate Choir; Diana Landis conducts the Apprentice Choir; and Dr. Steven Kronauer conducts the Young Men’s Ensemble. LACC alumna Holly Barber leads the alumni ensemble. The choirs will perform separately and combined.
