In May 2017, SACRA/PROFANA will conclude its 8th Season with an a cappella concert featuring the works of Stephen Feigenbaum along with choral works by American composers inspired by pop music. Doctrine, a project conceived by SACRA/PROFANA and Stephen Feigenbaum, explores the possibility of creating a true hybrid of electro indie pop and choral music. Conceived as sacred choral music from an imagined future in which there’s no longer any concept of what facts are, all the works deal lyrically with mundane experiences and emotions in this post-reality reality. The San Diego performance will take place at Park6 and the Los Angeles performance will take place at Gallery 1988 (West).
Known most recently for his epic Kanye/Beethoven Orchestral mash up entitled Yeethoven, which showed the ways in which great music of today is connected to great music of the past by juxtaposing Kanye West’s 2013 album Yeezus with Beethoven’s works, Feigenbaum is able to craft pieces that are beyond the traditional choral realm. Doctrine is unique in its experimental musical combinations. The rest of the concert is sprinkled with several gems from various up-and-coming contemporary composers and the World Premiere of 4 of Feigenbaum’s pieces.
SACRA/PROFANA continues to celebrate diversity and the collaborative spirit and to engage all generations during its 8th Season.
