Looking for suggestions for a community chorus and orchestra, repertory for a December concert. Must be for SATB chorus with NO soloists, moderate difficulty okay. Examples of recent rep in previous concerts include part one of Handel’s Messiah, and Howard Hansen’s Song of Democracy. Holiday theme is desirable, but not an absolute requirement.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
Community chorus & orchestra for December, moderate difficulty and NO solos:
You might consider
•Haydn: Te Deum Hob.XXIIIc:2
•Stravinsky: Symphony of Psalms
•Brahms: Schicksalslied op.54, Nänie op.82, Gesang der Parzen op.89
Admittedly, the Brahms triptych is pretty dark but I beg you not to dismiss the Stravinsky out of hand.
Henry Drinker once reported that many of Bach’s cantatas led their arias and recitatives to chorus sections and I think his list is worth investigation: BWV 4 28 19 34 36 39 40 48 63 64 77 79 106 118 131 137 145 159 192
Hope that helps!
