- September 4, 2013 at 6:58 am #425154I direct an SATB community chorus and an SAB/SSA Youth community choir and a two part children’s choir, as well as an advanced handbell choir and we are doing a combined concert in the spring. We are singing to benefit Challenger Baseball…a program for kids with Downs Syndrome and Spina Bifida. I would like to include a couple songs about baseball or any other sport in the concert, as well as some fun songs that would be enjoyed by all. Any suggestions? This is a harder theme to find good music. Thanks for your help.Christine AllisonSeptember 4, 2013 at 10:40 am #425176There’s a really, really great 4-part SPEAKING chorus piece called “Football”. It’s by Dobbins and published by Shawnee Press. I usually don’t like speaking chorus pieces but this is a great humorous recreation of an entire football game, including the halftime show.September 4, 2013 at 2:42 pm #425194Paul Ayres‘ Songs of Time and Fame were written with the 2012 Olympics in mind. Great fun to sing and he can supply materials to help with learning. It includes both of the the verses (beginning with “Katy Casey was baseball made, had the fever and had it bad. Just to root for the hometown crew every sou, Katy blew!” — sometimes we substitute ” … every cent, Katy spent,” but it doesn’t rhyme with “blew”). A lot of folks have never heard the verses, and they cast the song in a slightly different light! 🙂Anyway, I uploaded it to the Library in the Senior Singers and Choirs community here on Choralnet for anyone who wants it. Here’s the link:You’re welcome to use it free of charge if it suits your program.Lana MountfordDirector, GoldenTones Vocal Ensemble, Seattle, WASeptember 6, 2013 at 6:39 am #425309What about “(You’ve Gotta Have) Heart,” from Damn Yankees?September 6, 2013 at 6:56 am #425310I recommend World of Sports by Anders Edenroth of the Real Group. Also, Walk on Up to Heaven by Gwyneth Walker has a baseball theme.Have fun!
