I’m looking for a duet (male/female – both have big ranges and good chops) that could be programmed on the same concert as the Carmina Burana. We’re doing a scenic version – so there is the added visual interest. And also have Orff instrumental music from a children’s group.
This seems like a tough pairing!!! Any suggestions?
One possibility that seems to suit your requirements is the musical setting for tenor and soprano of the Latin text of Horace Odes 3.9 (“Donec gratus eram tibi …”) by Charles Salaman. A score can be found in Latin Songs Classical Medieval and Modern ed. Calvin Brown (New York 1914.) The book is available on line in Google Books and Archive.org (at least in the US — sometimes copyright restrictions mean that not all texts are available in all countries,) and may also be available from local libraries via inter-library loan.
If you end up using this and it’s recorded, please let us know. I’ve never heard this piece performed.
