My High School Choir has an incredibly rich Bass and Tenor Section. However, my Alto and Soprano sections are lacking. What are some works you all have done that will push my gentlemen while giving my ladies decent content to develop with? Thank you!
“sd17” wants high school music that is bottom heavy:
You might take a look at Verdi’s “Patria oppressa” (from “Macbeth”). While the women do have some substantial lines, the guys do all the heavy lifting. It’s a very powerful piece!
Once, having no altos to speak of, we did Samuel Scheidt’s “Ach, mein herzliebes Jesulein” with tenors doing the alto’s part. Much of the music is divided SS+ATB (with keyboard) and the lower parts introduce the most aggressive section of the piece. The men really shine on that one.
Hope that helps!
