The Vox Grata Women’s Choir has announced its Fall Concert – Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor. The concert will include choral works addressing the need for our nation to be welcoming to immigrants, featuring pieces by Abbie Betinis, Andrea Clearfield, Moira Smiley, Villa-Lobos, Joan Szymko, Kevin Memley and others.
Vox Grata is co-conducted by Susan Kelly and Jeanette MacCallum and will be accompanied by John Semingson. “Given that the beneficiary organization for this concert serves refugee women, we wanted to sing texts that would resonate with them—music that would convey the plight and tireless hope of immigrants as they seek understanding, peace and love in a new nation,” said MacCallum.
There will be no charge for admission to these concerts, both of which start at 7:30 PM. Vox Grata Women’s Choir is unique among choral groups, in that all of its concerts directly benefit the needs of women in the Middle Tennessee area.
Vox Grata has selected Sew for Hope to receive all of the proceeds received from an offering at this event. The mission of Sew for Hope is to enhance the lives of refugees in Middle Tennessee through social interaction, where English language, sewing, and sewing business skills are shared. “Sew for Hope is honored to be the recipient of the Fall 2018 Vox Grata concert offerings. We are also very grateful for this opportunity to enhance our mission to encourage refugee women in Middle Tennessee through job skills and placement,” said Rita Atkins, Founder and President of Sew for Hope.
